Even the most organized couples can miss a few hidden costs when planning their wedding. These small (and sometimes not-so-small) expenses add up quickly and can create unnecessary stress if they sneak up at the last minute. To help you stay one step ahead, here are 10 commonly overlooked wedding costs you’ll want to factor into your budget from the start.



1.  Gratuities & Tips – For vendors, bartenders, delivery crews, etc.


  • Vendors (planners, photographers, DJs, etc.): $50–$200 each

  • Bartenders & waitstaff: 15–20% of the bar/catering bill

  • Delivery crews (flowers, rentals, cake, etc.): $20–$50 each

2. Marriage License Fees

  • Varies by state/county: $25–$100


3. Alterations & Undergarments


  • Wedding dress alterations: $300–$800+ (complex gowns may be $1,000+)

  • Suit/tux tailoring: $50–$200

Some hair and maeup artists will include this in their package but not all do

6. Ceremony Fees


Many couples forget small but necessary fees for the ceremony itself, like:

  • Officiant travel or honorarium: $100–$500

  • Church or venue ceremony fees: $200–$1,000+

7. Meals for Vendors
